STOCKTON
HITS A HOMERUN; WINS ALL AMERICA CITY AWARD
Philadelphia,
PA -- Hugs, cheers, tears and laughter were all
that could be heard and seen coming from Stockton's
delegation as they and the City were chosen a
1999 All America City Award winner. The award
was presented at a National Civic League ceremony
tonight at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel.
"I
knew we could do it!" exclaimed Councilwoman
Ann Johnston. "We are a great City getting better
all the time."
Johnston,
Stockton's Mayor Gary A. Podesto and Vice Mayor
Gloria Nomura were part of a 55-person contingent
that represented Stockton in the competition.
The group made its presentation the day before
in front of a panel of 12 judges. Winning cities
were chosen based on how well citizen action
had succeeded in making the community a better
place to live.
"The
three programs highlighted in our application
demonstrated our commitment to young people and
our community as a whole," Mayor Podesto
said.
Jury
members are chosen from a variety of professions
and from across the United States. This is the
50th anniversary of the award.
The
Stockton delegation will leave Philadelphia
on Sunday, June 27 and arrive at the Sacramento
airport on United Airlines flight #2504 at 3:02
PM. The public is encouraged to come out
and welcome them back. For more information on
arrival details contact Stockton's Public Information
